Integrations specialist Kafka

Assignment description

We are looking for an experienced Kafka Platform Engineer to build, operate and continuously improve integration and platform capabilities used by multiple development teams.

The role focuses on platform stability, automation, self-service and end-to-end operational responsibility, with a strong emphasis on Apache Kafka and HiveMQ. You will work with multi-cluster, multi-region Kafka environments running on Kubernetes, manage platform upgrades and patching, and ensure reliable, scalable and secure operation across the platform.

You will design and maintain Kafka Connectors, scaling strategies, partition layouts, retention policies and resource allocation, as well as high-availability and disaster recovery solutions with cross-region replication and automated failover. The role also includes managing Schema Registries, Kafka ACLs, authentication, mTLS, SASL/SCRAM and RBAC.

A key part of the assignment is building strong observability and operational capabilities using Prometheus and Grafana, creating proactive alerting, performing root-cause analysis and providing Tier 3 support for complex integration and platform issues.

You will also act as a technical SME for application teams working with Java and Spring Boot and advise on producer and consumer configuration, schema management and performance optimization. In addition, you will work with GitHub Actions, KEDA and Helm to automate delivery, scaling and infrastructure management.

The role includes creating reusable platform abstractions, self-service tooling and clear technical documentation so that development teams can provision topics, schemas and credentials safely within defined architectural guardrails. You will collaborate closely with Security, Architecture and development teams and contribute to incident, problem and change management at platform level

Qualifications:

• You have 4–6 years of experience with Apache Kafka, Strimzi, Kafka Connect API and KRaft.
• You have 4–6 years of experience working with Java and Spring Boot.
• You have experience with PostgreSQL.
• You have strong experience with Azure Kubernetes Service, AKS.
• You have experience working with Linux, including WSL.
• You have experience with GitHub Actions and ArgoCD.
• You have knowledge of Splunk, Fluent Bit and Helm.
• You have experience with CI/CD using GitHub Actions and/or Jenkins.
• You have experience with Infrastructure as Code, using Terraform or equivalent.
• You have experience with observability tooling such as Splunk, Grafana and Prometheus.
• You have experience with Fluent Bit or OpenTelemetry.
• You have strong experience with Apache Kafka at platform level, including clusters, performance and security.
• You have experience with HiveMQ brokers.
• You are fluent in English, and Swedish language skills are considered an advantage.

Nice to Have

• It is meriting if you have experience with API Management platforms.
• A plus is experience with Azure, AWS or Google Cloud.
• It is meriting if you have experience with cloud cost optimization.
• Experience working within an integration function in a large enterprise environment is considered an advantage.
