Assignment description

We are looking for an experienced Integration Specialist (WSO2) to manage, configure and further develop API management and integration capabilities in a modern cloud environment.

In this role, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining WSO2 API Manager across development, staging and production environments. You will work with core components such as Gateway, Publisher, Developer Portal, Key Manager and Traffic Manager, as well as integrations with external identity and access management solutions.

The assignment combines API platform management with infrastructure responsibilities across both Linux-based virtual machines and Azure Kubernetes Service, AKS. You will support deployments, upgrades, troubleshooting, scaling, ingress configuration, persistent storage and platform monitoring.

A key part of the role is managing LLM-based APIs and ensuring secure and controlled access through the API platform. This includes rate limiting, throttling, usage tracking and governance for services such as OpenAI, Azure OpenAI and Anthropic.

You will also work with Model Context Protocol, MCP, including configuration and maintenance of MCP servers, client-server integrations and governance of MCP endpoints through the API gateway. The role includes understanding and supporting tool discovery, invocation, context handling, authentication, authorization and observability across MCP-based integrations.

In addition, you will define and enforce API governance, lifecycle and security standards, monitor API traffic and performance, and collaborate closely with DevOps and platform teams on CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code and deployment automation. You will also maintain technical documentation, runbooks and operational procedures.

Qualifications

  • You have 4+ years of hands-on experience administering WSO2 API Manager, preferably versions 3.x or 4.x.
  • You have strong knowledge of WSO2 core components, including Gateway, Publisher, Developer Portal, Key Manager, Traffic Manager and Carbon-based architecture.
  • You have proven experience integrating third-party key managers and identity providers with WSO2.
  • You have experience installing, configuring and maintaining WSO2 API Manager on virtual machines, including database setup, load balancing and high-availability deployments.
  • You have working knowledge of Azure AKS, including kubectl, Helm, node pools, networking, ingress controllers and monitoring.
  • You are familiar with LLM APIs and understand request/response structures, token-based billing, streaming, rate limits and API gateway governance.
  • You have a strong understanding of the Model Context Protocol, MCP, including client-server architecture, transport layers, session lifecycle, server development and deployment, client behavior and capability negotiation.
  • You have experience securing MCP endpoints through authentication, authorization, input validation and sandboxing.
  • You can troubleshoot MCP integrations, including tool call failures, transport issues, schema mismatches and timeout handling.
  • You have solid knowledge of OAuth2, JWT, API security and certificate management.
  • You have experience with Linux system administration.

Nice to Have

  • It is meriting if you hold WSO2 certifications.
  • A plus is experience with WSO2 Identity Server or WSO2 Micro Integrator.
  • It is meriting if you have hands-on experience with Terraform or Bicep for Azure infrastructure provisioning.
  • Experience with API monetization and subscription-tier management is considered an advantage.
  • A plus is experience building custom mediators or Synapse configurations.
  • It is meriting if you have experience building or integrating MCP servers using TypeScript, Python or Java SDKs.
  • Exposure to prompt engineering or AI/ML API orchestration patterns is an advantage.
  • Experience governing MCP traffic at scale, including routing, load balancing and monitoring multiple MCP server instances behind an API gateway, is highly meriting.

Skills

  • You have strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills in distributed API gateway environments.
  • You understand how AI agents interact with external systems through tool-use protocols such as MCP.
  • You communicate effectively across development, security, AI and infrastructure teams.
  • You can document complex technical configurations clearly.
  • You are self-directed and have a strong focus on reliability and uptime.
