Assignment description 

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Backend Engineer with proficiency in Kotlin, preferably combined with Ktor or a similar backend framework. You will become an integral part of the client’s team working with sustainable consumer products and payments globally, and they expect technical independence on a high skill level.

Furthermore, you will work with end-to-end autonomy which means a good understanding of build-automation tools, version control tools and CI/CD is needed. The perfect candidate has worked with multi-regional backends, where the built system is running in multiple clusters with different time zones, on several datacenters, globally. Experience with Kubernetes is a requirement.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain robust and scalable backend services primarily using Kotlin and Ktor
• Engage in architectural discussions and contribute to the design of a multi-regional backend
• Maintain and manage SQL and NoSQL databases
• Maintain and manage search clusters such as OpenSearch
• Work on their payment and product platform and ensure fault tolerance
• Set up CI/CD pipelines using tools like Github, Gradle & CircleCI
• Monitor built services using tools like kubectl and services such as Sentry and Datadog
• Mentor junior engineers, guiding them on best practices

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience
• 3+ years of developing in Kotlin, with extensive understanding of modern and asynchronous backend frameworks
• Fluent in some tool or language for version control, CI/CD and build automation
• Knowledge of how to deploy, ingress, monitor and manage backend services in a Kubernetes cluster
• Excellent communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

• Hands-on experience and understanding of payment platforms is advantageous
• Hands-on experience and understanding of event sourcing is a bonus
• Familiarity with AWS and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform
• Familiarity with Rust and Go would be a plus
