Assignment Description
Our client is looking for an OSS Software Engineer skilled in Java for software development. This role involves working with embedded systems and customer-facing platforms, such as ERP/MES/MCS systems. The engineer will be responsible for system design, testing, and debugging, focusing on optimization algorithms and log data analysis. A critical aspect of this position is collaborating with simulation teams to test systems using emulated hardware.
In addition to software development, the engineer will contribute to product design, covering mechanical, electrical, and software aspects. The role involves defining product requirements, assisting in project management tasks, and conducting hands-on testing in laboratory settings. The work environment offers flexibility, with hybrid work arrangements and adaptable office spaces.
Project Overview
The engineer will work on an exciting new project in the semiconductor manufacturing industry, a new domain for our client. The project involves the design and development of a mechatronic solution for a goods transportation system that utilizes multiple shuttles. This includes the shuttles themselves, a rail structure, charging stations, and the management system, integrating both mechanical and electrical systems with software.
The project is based in Sweden, with the client located in southern Europe. The development team will handle all aspects of requirements, design, and testing, and will be actively involved in installation and commissioning. Occasional travel to the client’s site may be necessary.
Main Responsibilities:
The OSS Software Engineer will be responsible for developing software in Java, focusing on interfacing with embedded systems and customer platforms like ERP, MES, and MCS systems. The role involves designing and testing optimization algorithms to enhance system performance, as well as analyzing and debugging system events using log data streams. Collaboration with the simulation team is essential for conducting tests through emulated hardware interfaces. Additionally, the engineer will participate in the design, testing, and debugging of product features, which may involve mechanical, electrical, or software components. Another key responsibility is contributing to the definition and specification of product requirements. The engineer will assist with estimating work packages and providing project management support through time planning and task breakdowns. The role also requires the production and maintenance of technical documentation, as well as hands-on work in laboratory environments for testing and debugging purposes. The engineer will work in a flexible, hybrid environment, adjusting to both in-office and remote work settings.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Electrical Engineering).
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a related field.
It is meritorious if you have experience working with Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV), Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR), or other mechatronic solutions in industrial automation. Familiarity with SEMI standards within automation, such as E84, or safety standards like S2, is also advantageous. Additionally, having experience with clean room applications (ISO 5) would further enhance your qualifications for this role.
Required Attributes:
The ideal candidate should demonstrate creativity and problem-solving ingenuity, with a strong focus on delivering customer and business value while industrializing solutions. They must possess strong organizational skills and maintain a high level of attention to detail. Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is essential, along with strong communication skills that allow the engineer to explain technical information effectively to non-technical colleagues.
