Assignment Description

We are seeking a Senior Ontologist to develop and maintain ontologies within a semantic data management framework. This role involves designing and managing ontologies to support data integration, semantic enrichment, and knowledge management while supporting overall data governance and integration efforts.

Key responsibilities include structuring taxonomies for effective knowledge representation, analysing datasets such as JSON and Excel for insights, and ensuring their relevance for semantic integration. The position also requires collaboration to align ontology levels, applying best practices, and refining models for accuracy. Proficiency in tools like metaphactory and RDFox, as well as maintaining version control through Git, is essential.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in ontology design, development, and related semantic technologies. Ability to implement and maintain ontologies independently, with minimal supervision.
• Expertise in RDF(S), OWL, SKOS, SHACL, SPARQL, and other relevant W3C standards.
• Proficiency in Datalog or other inferencing rule languages to support complex logic within the ontologies.
• Familiarity with common serialisation formats, such as Turtle (ttl), JSON-LD, etc.
• Experience with Git processes, including branching, merging, and reviewing ontology-related changes.
• Proficiency in ontology development tools such as metaphactory and RDFox to streamline ontology creation and management.

In addition to these fundamental qualifications, it is highly beneficial for candidates to have prior experience in a similar role within a large organisation. An advanced degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related field with a focus on semantic technologies is also advantageous. These additional qualifications contribute to a deeper understanding of semantic frameworks and enhance the ability to work within complex data ecosystems.
