Assignment description:

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer with strong expertise in Li-ion batteries to support an MVP focused on next-life planning for used battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

In this role, you will focus on assessing battery State of Health (SOH) and estimating Remaining Useful Life (RUL), translating these insights into practical business decisions related to contract length, pricing, warranty risk, and residual value.

You will work closely with a team of data scientists, software engineers, and data engineers, contributing deep battery domain knowledge. Your role will be to interpret battery behavior, understand degradation mechanisms, and ensure that models and insights are technically sound and credible.

You will analyze operational vehicle data to assess battery degradation, compare onboard and offboard health estimates, and explain deviations. You will also evaluate key aging factors such as temperature, state of charge, charging patterns, and usage profiles.

A key part of the role is to define limitations, confidence levels, and applicability of battery lifetime estimates, and translate technical findings into clear, actionable recommendations for business decisions related to used BEVs.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant technical education in battery technology, electrochemistry, electrical engineering, materials science, or similar
  • Strong expertise in Li-ion battery technology and degradation mechanisms
  • Experience with battery lifetime assessment, including calendar aging, cycle aging, and real-world usage effects
  • Solid understanding of SOH, RUL, capacity fade, resistance increase, and performance degradation
  • Experience interpreting battery data from vehicles, BMS systems, diagnostics, or battery testing
  • Ability to critically assess battery model outputs and judge technical and business relevance
  • Experience working with battery engineers, data scientists, and commercial stakeholders
  • English (working language)

Nice To Have:

  • Advanced studies or specialization within battery systems or energy storage
  • Experience with BEVs, preferably commercial vehicles or high-utilization applications
  • Experience with used-vehicle battery health, residual value assessment, warranty risk, or second-life planning
  • Experience comparing on-board SOH estimates with external or off-board battery models
  • Basic proficiency in Python, SQL, or similar tools to review and validate analysis results

You are a pragmatic and analytical battery specialist with the ability to challenge assumptions in a constructive way. You communicate clearly and can explain complex degradation topics in an understandable manner. You are also able to translate technical uncertainty into actionable insights, supporting informed business decision-making.
