Assignment Description

We are looking for a Software Engineer with a data focus for a hybrid assignment that requires on-site presence three days per week. The role involves developing and maintaining analytical data structures and semantic layers in Databricks, using Delta Lake and Unity Catalog, for reporting and analytics related to employees, organisational structures, workforce-related measures and learning-related data. You will also be responsible for Power BI semantic models, DAX measures, row-level security and TMDL/XMLA-based deployments for reporting at enterprise scale, using Git as part of the delivery setup. The assignment includes transforming HR-related and workforce-related information, such as headcount, attrition, learning completion, engagement and organisational hierarchy, into clear, reliable and well-governed analytical products.

The work includes close collaboration with business stakeholders responsible for people-related processes, capability development and workforce planning, in order to define data requirements, review grain and validate business logic. You will contribute to practices for data quality, lineage and governance, including alignment with metadata and glossary tooling such as Collibra. As part of an agile analytics product team, you will participate in backlog refinement, sprint planning, stakeholder demonstrations and release documentation. The role also includes defining and applying standards for modelling, including surrogate key patterns, SCD handling, bridge tables and incremental refresh strategies. In addition, you will support less experienced team members through code review, documentation and knowledge transfer, and assist with software engineering tasks related to learning-focused solutions when needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong hands-on experience using Databricks, covering Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Spark SQL and development in notebooks.
  • At least five years of general software engineering background, where layered architecture and decoupled solution design have been part of the normal way of working.
  • Comfortable contributing in an agile product delivery setup with direct interaction with stakeholders.
  • Expert-level Power BI competence across DAX, semantic model architecture, static and dynamic row-level security, Power Query (M), deployment pipelines and TMDL/XMLA.
  • At least three years of engineering experience related to data analytics, Power BI-based insights and/or data or semantic modelling.
  • Strong communication skills in both writing and speech, including the ability to document technical choices in a way that is understandable for business readers.
  • Experience from datasets within HR, workforce or people analytics, for example organisational structures, headcount, attrition, learning-related data or engagement data.
  • Solid grounding in dimensional modelling, including how to design facts and dimensions, define grain, work with SCD types and apply surrogate key patterns.

It is considered meritorious if you have familiarity with OWL/RDF or semantic web technologies used for ontology-aligned modelling, as well as experience communicating analytics outcomes to senior stakeholders without a technical background. Previous exposure to HR-related systems such as Workday or Cornerstone OnDemand within learning contexts is considered beneficial. Experience using data governance platforms, for example Collibra, is also seen as an advantage. Experience with Microsoft Fabric technologies, including workloads related to OneLake, Lakehouse or Warehouse environments, is regarded as valuable.
