Assignment Description

Our client, a leader in the Paper and Pulp industry is looking for an IT Project Manager for an assignment in Stockholm.

The client is currently running a project implementing the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The EUDR Regulation is officially adopted and entered into force in June 2023. EUDR aims to stop deforestation and forest degradation associated with specific products placed on or exported from the EU market, in particular agriculture crops, but also wood products and solid biofuels. The main provisions in the regulation will apply in December 2024. The impact of EUDR spans over a number of areas and processes within the organization, for example Wood Supply, Procurement, Supply Chain and Operations.

The client is also embarking on a strategic transition to a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. The aim is to optimize the business processes, improve cross-departmental information flow, and enhance the client’s data management capabilities. The program consists of a number of workstreams.

As an IT project manager you will run the EUDR project and the Sustainability stream in the transformation project. In the EUDR project the role is to lead the Execution phase and coordinate development of the solution. The impact on EUDR processes and IT solution will be on regional level (Europe) and local (mill) level. The solution will include changes on existing processes and solutions as well as implementing new processes and solutions. The existing and possible future solutions is both internal and external, managed internally or by service providers. The assignment will include a lot of collaboration with business staff and experts in Wood Supply, Procurement, Supply Chain and Operations as well as IT staff within the organization and external application vendors.

In parallel the IT Project Manager for EUDR will be part of the transformation program in order to secure the EUDR and other sustainability related requirement in the new ERP solution.

Role description:

The overall objective as IT Project Manager for EUDR is to lead the implementation of EUDR within the organization. This means planning and organizing and carrying out the implementation of processes, working methods and solutions. For the implementation of processes and working methods, there are representatives from the relevant businesses who will carry out the work and your role as project manager will be to follow up and coordinate with other activities. When it comes to development of the solution, it will be carried out in several areas; in industry-wide systems, by suppliers for purchased systems and by the own IT department. Your role will be to coordinate, manage and follow up development and deliveries. To help you, you have a project group consisting of operational experts, regulatory experts and solution architects. The work must be coordinated with other important transformation projects within the organization that implements new processes and solutions within the EUDR scope. All of this requires constant collaboration and coordination with Business experts and IT staff, in the organization and application vendors.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the work on implementing a solution for EUDR
    – Short term to meet regulatory requirements
    – Long term to meet the target architecture requirements
  • Lead the resources within the project
  • Plan and then execute changes to current solution for processes and solutions in scope for EUDR
  • Coordinate process implementation with the affected business
  • Evaluation of standard solutions and decide if and how they could fit in the overall solution for EUDR
  • Manage and coordinate implementation
    – Within the organization with different Teams
    – With Service Manager and industry common solutions
    – With Service Manager and suppliers of purchased systems
  • Synchronize with other major initiatives within the organization
  • Hold steering group
  • Report status to project office and in project tools
  • Lead the Sustainability Stream in the Transformation Project

Qualifications:

  • Ability to lead projects and coordinate implementation of processes and IT solutions
  • Ability to hold steering group meetings with senior management
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate with different resources and roles, technical staff as well as business staff
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate with customers, suppliers and vendors
  • Ability to manage progress, address deviations and replan according to new conditions
  • Experience with both custom-built and ERP-systems, and a strong understanding of their integration challenges
  • At least 10 years’ experience in all the above.

Experience from Regulations and Sustainability:

  • Experience from leading projects with regulatory requirements
  • Experience from leading projects with sustainability requirements

Experience from manufacturing industry are advantageous:

  • Experience from leading projects in manufacturing and/or process industry
  • Good understanding about the processes and concepts within supply chain, purchase and operations within manufacturing and/or process industries.

Personal skills:

  • Be able to plan and lead the work independently but still be a team player
  • Communicative, able to communicate with the business, technicians and suppliers)
  • Technical, understand IT and technology at an overall level
  • Be pedagogic and able to visualize current and future state
  • Practical, being able to prioritize what is most important

Location and Mobility:

  • Necessary to participate in a considerable number of live workshops in Stockholm (Solna)
  • Some workshops might also be held at different mills in Europe.
